Geale v Adama
Grange Global Promotions in conjunction with Main Event Television and Gary Shaw Productions present a feast of world class boxing Wednesday, March 7th 2012 at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, Hobart, Tasmania.
In his last bout on home soil before heading abroad, International Boxing Federation world Middleweight champion Daniel “The Real Deal” Geale faces his toughest test to date when he defends his crown against the number one contender Osumanu Adama of the United States.
The champion wants another taste of hometown support after the roaring atmosphere generated by the D.E.C.s capacity crowd during his 1st defence was compared by heavyweight U.S. promoter, Gary Shaw, to that of a Las Vegas super fight.
This is Daniel’s mandatory defence of the much coveted IBF 160lb title captured in Germany last May, Geale’s record currently stands at 26-1 (15 KO) and victory imperative in order to set up a unification bout abroad in the middle of the year. Whilst his team negotiates with Sergio Martinez, Dmitry Pirog and Felix Sturm, Daniel never looks past the fight ahead and remains totally focused on his next challenger.
Number one contender for the Middleweight crown and the man looking to derail “The Real Deal’s” plan is Osumanu Adama. The former Ghanaian Middleweight champion now lives and fights out of Joliet, Illinois and boasts a record of 20-2 (15 KO). His path to a shot at the title has seen him in his last 3 outings defeat tough Mexican, Angel Hernandez for the vacant I.B.O. world title in a shutout, defend successfully against Marcus Upshaw with a devastating 4th round knockout, followed by the systematic dismantling of Roman Karmazin over 9 rounds, who was but a shadow of the fighter Geale had retired 12 months earlier.
In typical African fashion, Adama is fit, confident and an aggressive come forward fighter guaranteed to apply extreme pressure from the opening bell, the big question is “does he have what it takes?” to step up in class and on to the world stage, to face an extremely talented defending champion, who claimed the crown whilst on the improve and defeated his last opponent with one good hand.
As the main support, Sydney’s Billy “The Kid” Dib in mandatory defence of his 126lb IBF Featherweight world title will face the rugged and well schooled Mexican Eduardo “Canilla” Escobedo, in a fight that promises fireworks. Dib will look to continue on with his impressive form, after his last outing on November19th 2011 saw him stop the previously undefeated Italian challenger Alberto Servidei, in just 2 minutes and 38 seconds of the opening stanza.
Both fighters have the potential to render the judges unnecessary in this bout with Dib possessing a 33-1 (20 KO) record, Escobedo 32-3 (23 KO) and coming off a second round demolition of Joksan Hernandez for the IBF Latino regional title after visiting the canvas 5 times in 6 minutes, courtesy of the heavy handed native of Mexico City.
A convincing win by “The Kid” at this level will firm his aspirations and desire to headline events in the U.S. of A.
Leading in to the main support bout, Australia’s primo heavyweight Kali “Mean Hands” Meehan defends his IBF Pan-Pacific Heavyweight title over 12 rounds against a much improved Travis Walker of the U.S.A. Fox sports fans will remember Walker troubling Samoan/Australian big banger Alex Leapai back in 2010. Since taking the Leapai fight on short notice, Walker is 4 wins from 6 outings, winning the NABA USA Heavyweight title along the way with his 2 defeats being point’s decision losses to former WBA World champion, Ruslan Chagaev and undefeated prospect Kubrat Pulaev in an I.B.F. World title bout.
Kali Meehan will look to solidify his IBF #8 and WBA #11 world ranking when he meets Walker on this occasion, with a combined force of 500lb, 350 rounds professional experience and knockout records of near 70% the only advice promoters can give is “Hang on to your seats and don’t blink”.

“Keeping it Real” tickets available
Daniel is returning to Tasmania for his first world title defence against hard-hitting American Eromesele Albert. He will return to his home state for the first time since 2009, giving fans in Tasmania a rare opportunity to see their local hero in action fresh from his stunning victory over German champion Sebastian Sylvester in May. Despite receiving lucrative offers to fight big name boxers in Australia and overseas, he will repay his hometown fans by taking on experienced American Eromesele Albert in the first world title boxing event to ever be staged in Tasmania.
“I’m very proud of my heritage and am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to have my first mandatory defense in Hobart. I remember shadow boxing as a kid, dreaming about what it would feel like to have a world title fight in front of my home fans. That dream has become a reality now and I just can’t wait to get back out there and put on a show for all the people that helped me get to where I am today”

Geale joins greats as new world champ
DANIEL Geale sent six millions Germans into meltdown this morning when he did the next-to-impossible – beating a German world champion on German soil.
Geale is the new IBF middleweight world champion after a stunning split decision win against champion Sebastian Sylvester.
American judge Steve Epstein scored it 118-110 to Geale, Scottish judge Marcus McDonnell scored it 118-112 to Geale, while Denmark’s Berit Andreason scored Sylvester the winner 118-110.
The disparity among the judges was alarming but, fortunately, this time it fell in the Australian’s favour.
“Australia should be very proud,” Geale’s trainer Graham Shaw said.
The fight, televised on Main Event this morning, was also shown on commercial television to six million viewers across Germany.
News of Geale’s win will catapult him among the biggest names in Australian boxing.
No, not Anthony Mundine and Danny Green, both of whom failed to win their world title bids when they travelled to Germany.
He joins only three other Australian born fighters to win the world title on foreign soil – Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose and Jeff Harding – who are all bonafide Australian legends.
Geale, 30, is at the peak of his powers and is set to reward legitimate Australian fight fans who know the difference between a genuine fighter and a celebrity boxer.
Unfortunately, few others do.
His only loss was against Mundine – a decision the IBO later overruled, pordering a rematch. It failed to go ahead because Mundine changed divisions.
Both fighters came into the fight in superb condition and set up their assaults behind tight defence.
While Sylvester took control of centre ring early and kept it behind a jab that pumped out from the first round to the last.
However Geale more often got the better of the exchanges, and outworked Sylvester throughout.
When the 12th round ended and it was clear it was going to the judges, the question – given the closeness of so many rounds – was what were the judges scoring?
That is the only way you can explain the difference between Epstein’s scorecard and Andreason’s.

Real Geale A True Wests Tigers Man
Wests Tigers have thrown their support behind avid Member and professional boxer Daniel Geale as he prepares for a world title fight in May.
Nick-named The Real Deale, Geale lives and breathes boxing in between looking after his wife and three children. And when time allows, the very likeable boxer loves nothing more than getting out to cheer on Wests Tigers.
This was the case at Campbelltown Sports Stadium last Saturday night when Geale was introduced to the crowd at the Canberra game where he spoke of his upcoming fight.
Geale also fired the starter’s gun for the junior relay and later presented Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah with the 1989 League Legends Cup following the side’s win over the Raiders.
Last month, Geale was an active part of the Club’s push for supporters to become a Member as part of the Battle of the West competition – won by Wests Tigers.
He also has previously put the players through gruelling boxing sessions at Concord Oval.
Geale, the former IBO Middleweight Champion and the current IBF No.1 rated mandatory challenger, will fight World Champion Sebastian Sylvester of Germany on May 7 at the Jahnsport Stadium in Neubrandenburg, Germany. He leaves on April 22.
“With 7 weeks to go, my trainer Graham Shaw will step up preparations to have me in peak condition and ultimately, relieve Sylvester of his belt and bring it home to Australia,’’ Geale said.
“Sylvester is a great champion with multiple defences to his credit but this is my time and I won’t be denied.”
